I am still up to my eyes in college work but I am also putting on a small exhibition of a few of my watercolours next Tuesday 21st of October here in Tramore at The Victoria House. More than that though the evening is what is called a Drink & Draw evening which is open to all, artists and non artists.
I first heard of Drink & Draw though a friend who lives in San Francisco(Annie Galvin a Wexford girl and Waterford art school graduate who runs the successful 3 Fish studios with her husband Eric). Annie often attends an evening at the Minna Gallery where artists sit and draw (and partake of a beer or two) and the public come by and pick up some bargains as they are being created. Purely coincidentally Annie will be in Tramore on Tuesday night and I like that kind of serendipity.
Drink & Draw evenings have become popular here in Ireland recently but for the most part they are just for small groups of artists. This is great as artists have to work at staying in touch with a community of like-minded souls but some of these groups can become closed and cliquey even to other artists.Cliques have their place but I do not want this night to be like that so everyone is welcome. I have also received a lot of support for my work in and around Tramore and I know many people who love the arts and though they are not artists might enjoy a night like this.
There is no onus on anyone to draw or even drink. You don’t have to be an artist, just come and hang out, maybe get drawn. If you like buying art there will be much cheapness (yet also quality) and the opportunity to haggle if the mood so takes you. Again though there’s no onus on anyone to buy. It’s just a fun experimental evening.
Also exhibiting will be Martin Fahy of Southpaw studio in Waterford. Martin is always up to some community project or other and runs workshops in all sorts of things and they can be tailored to anyones requirements. If you want to book the space or to attend an workshop then email Martin firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0872451200. Martin is closely connected to pirate Captain Theo who will also be present on Tuesday…
Some of my talented classmates will be taking part and showing work and three of them, Rory, Rory & Caolainn (there are lots of Rorys in college)will be working on a collaborative drawing which anyone is welcome to add too. There will be some framed work on the walls but there will be a lot of unframed work too.
I’ll be bringing paper and pencils but people can bring their own things too. The buying of the drink I have to leave solely up to your good selves.
There will be live music from Paul Hennessy(thanks Paul) and there will also be jelly babies. If you see me dressed in a wetsuit during the course of the evening just ignore me, it’s an art student thing. Hope to see you there, Tuesday, 8pm(ish)(earlier, later, who cares? We’ll be there for the duration) downstairs at The Victoria House Queens Street, Tramore. Below is some work you will see on the night..
